Third Angel is the creative practice of Kay Orchison.
Kay Orchison may once have been a Web designer, is still an artist, is about to be a parent for a third time, and is open to allegations of anarcho-syndicalism. Kay Orchison is 33. Kay Orchison is married to a magnificent superhero who was born on the same day. They have two children who have the same birthday as each other three years apart. They have a third child due in the same week as the first two, after another interval of three years.
Kay Orchison has often been seen lounging on the board of Vagabond Press since 1999, and has produced cover images for many literary luminaries under its auspices. He is working at the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales. He is also working on a solo exhibition of photographic anti-landscapes for Blender Gallery in Paddington which will be shown 2-21 February 2006. Mike Brennan has repeatedly saved his life with poetry. Kay has been collaborating with Mike since some time last century. The last thing they did together in the 20th Century was win the Siglo prize for collaboration.
Third Angel was started as a Web design business in Sydney in 1995. It has not been a Web design business since 2001.
In 1995, the name was just a pleasingly Gothic sound bite from Revelations - it was basically thought up in the DFT office when all three of the originally proposed business names were rejected.
Since then, however, civilsation has started to end, so a herald of the End Times is perhaps an appropriate name after all. Surprised? Google "Peak Oil". How's your Mad Max Index now?
This Third Angel is in no way affiliated with the English drama company of the same name, although this domain did receive (and redirect) a lot of email intended for them for a few years. We started up around the same time, and they have been busy from all accounts they are bloody impressive, and their site is well worth a look.
This section is my wife Louise Crabtree's Honours thesis online and her venue for semi-regular updates about her Ph.D. She designed and coded the whole thing herself. She updates it when she can. She's the real genius in the family, the mover and shaker, the one to watch.
She will always be the only thing
That comes between me and the awful sting
That comes from living in a world
That's so damn mean-The Eels
She's working on stuff about sustainable housing now. We aim to build our own over the next few years.
Vagabond was set up by Michael Brennan, Jane Gibian and Liz Allen in 1998. I came on board as designer when the first publication, The Dead by David Brooks, needed a cover. I have worked creating cover images and designing books with them ever since. I designed the Vagabond site with the intention of moving it to its own domain during 2006.
