But what does it all mean??
Footnotes
Urban community gardens and associated bodies display much complexity, diversity and overlap in their members, structures, philosophies and interactions. Interviewees identified numerous issues as documented above. Key among these were the drive to increase membership numbers to a level perceived sustainable by the gardeners and an associated need for promotion. Both of these can be seen as requiring or enhancing the gardens’ accessibility. Further issues concerned resolution of various conflicts, both within the gardens and with associated bodies, and the need for more gardening space. These represent negotiation between various individuals or groups. Core issues identified by ACFCGN overlap with these, including the desire to increase the number of active members and address aspects of promotion and communication. The next chapter engages with several of these within the frameworks of this study, such as ‘sustainability’, negotiation of the spaces between us, local embeddedness and access.
